| You In L.A.
Late last night when you were
sleeping
By my side, I whispered in your ear
And though I knew you were sleeping
Your reply I lied awake to hear
And I felt the rhythm of your
breathing
As I held your body close to mine
And then I listened intently to quiet sighs
That say you're near
Light appears beneath my window
Landing on your velvet skin and hair
And I look down to see your nightgown
Lying there across the bedroom chair
And I kiss the light upon your
shoulders
As I watch the night time disappear
And then I just lay contently
Knowing you were finally here
I awoke and looked beside me
I reached out and called your name out loud
But no one spoke, I was just dreaming
Like I'd done a thousand times before
And it feels this dream could last
forever
As I rise to face another day
As life goes on, I stay here thinking
About you in L.A.
Just dream of you in L.A.
NOTES:
This song was recorded a
Apple-wood Studio in West Seattle.
Just me playing guitar.
This is a bit of a racy song
(for me) that
I wrote after my girlfriend went off to college in
California. It was not about anything I had
experienced - just what I had dreamed about
experiencing. I was hesitant to play songs like
this for my parents to hear, however, my dad heard me
perform this one in a concert once and afterwards told
me that of all the songs I had written, this was his
favorite.
I believe this song was recorded
in the studio the day after my dad died of a heart attack. I had
the studio booked, and needed to occupy myself. I
still miss my dad. I think about him every time I
play this song. |
